Connect StudyLayer to Claude

Add StudyLayer once, then let Claude read the PDF pages you select and save the finished guide back to your StudyLayer reader.

Before you start

Every StudyLayer plan includes connected AI. Free includes 60 connected pages as a one-time allowance; Connected and Pro include 3,000 per month.

Claude

Your Claude account must be able to add a custom connector. Anthropic controls connector availability and Claude usage limits.

  1. 01

    Add the connector in Claude

    • Open Claude and go to Customize → Connectors.
    • Select the + button, then Add custom connector.
    • Enter StudyLayer as the name and paste the connector URL shown below.
    • Set Authentication to Always required.
    • Set OAuth client to No client ID — register one automatically.
    • Leave Additional request headers empty.
    • Under Advanced, keep Transport set to Streamable HTTP.
    • Select Add, then Connect.

    Authorize your StudyLayer account

    • Sign in to the StudyLayer account that owns your PDFs.
    • Review the requested access, then select Allow connection.
    • Return to Claude and make sure StudyLayer is enabled for the conversation.

    Prepare the guide in StudyLayer

    • Open Documents in StudyLayer and choose Use Claude.
    • Upload the PDF once, select the pages and format, then create the study guide.
    • Keep the StudyLayer reader open while its selected page previews finish preparing.

    Ask Claude to finish it

    • Start a new Claude conversation with the StudyLayer connector enabled.
    • Use the document-specific sentence shown in the StudyLayer reader.
    • Claude reads one selected page at a time and saves each validated note.
    • When every page is complete, reopen the finished reader in StudyLayer.

If something stops

Troubleshooting

  • Check that connected AI is enabled on StudyLayer if authorization says the connector is unavailable.
  • Confirm the connector URL ends in /api/mcp and has no extra spaces.
  • Remove and add the connector again if Claude cached an older authorization.
  • If Claude still shows an “S” instead of the StudyLayer mark, the connection is still safe to use. Claude gets custom-connector icons from Google’s favicon cache, which can take time to refresh; remove and add the connector again after it updates.
  • Start a fresh Claude conversation and enable StudyLayer if Claude does not use its tools.
  • If a run stops, repeat the same document-specific sentence. StudyLayer resumes saved pages instead of starting over.
